This was a tight race up front, with the top three separated by less than 0.25. Kudin got the win after she and Brie-Owens caught Turay in the final strides. Zimmerman grabbed 4th place from the second-to-last heat, Dumortier gave the Pirates three scorers in this race, and Crusoe Gaye ran a PR to score a point for Nottingham. Hopewell Valley’s Autumn Carter actually crossed the line a half-second ahead of everyone but was DQ’d for cutting in off the break a few steps too early.

This was probably the most impressive race of the day, at least judging by state rankings! The top 4 in this race crashed the top 30 in New Jersey for 1600m times: Lee (#6), Chinchalkar (#14), Young (#19), and Karra (#26). It was a very aggressive pace up front, with Lee splitting 2:26 and the three-girl chase pack going through in 2:30. As a result, almost all six of these scorers came away with PRs for the indoor 1600m. Lee’s time is #8 all-time in Mercer County, even counting conversions from the mile.

Just a few minutes after getting 2nd place in the 1600m, Chinchalkar jumped back on the track and easily defended her title in the 800m. Behind her were a strong trio of Princeton mid-distance girls, led by Murray with indoor PR that puts her at #3 . Young also scored more points for the Bulldogs on her quick turnaround after getting 3rd place in the 1600m.

Jenkins ran a PR of 7.45 in the prelims to establish herself as one of the best in Mercer County, and then she ran 7.31 in the finals to present herself as one of the best in the state — Her time is #20 in New Jersey this winter! Somerselle didn’t get the win but still ran well. In fact, she’s run 7.40 or faster in every 55m this season, even counting prelims. Matos PR’d by 0.02, which turned out to be the difference between 4th and 6th.

Lee took off with 800m to go and cruised to the win, completing the 1600m/3200m double in one of her first meets back after her immensely successful XC season. Karra, who ran shoulder-to-shoulder with Lee for the first 2400m, held off Dumont in a close finish for 2nd place. Meth, who is running her first winter track season, was just a few seconds off her outdoor PR and now sits at #5 in Mercer County this year.

Somerselle posted a quick mark out of the second-to-last heat, but then Jenkins once again shocked the field with a big PR to win her second title of the day. Her time is a new Lawrence school record! WW-P South’s trio of 400m medalists — Turay, Kudin, and Dumortier — all came back to score more points in this 200m, while the hurdle champion Davis-Owens got 5th place.

If it wasn’t clear from all their medals in the open 400m and 200m, WW-P South proved in the 4x400m that they have the best group of long sprinters in the CVC. The Pirates’ winning team here consisted of Turay, Dumortier, Kudin, and Saraiah Hoover. But Princeton’s team, which included all their 800m medalists, wasn’t far behind in 2nd place with a time that is #3 in Mercer County this winter.

Obidike and Bosley were the only other girls to have previously thrown over 30’ (after Nottingham’s Catalina Holliday scratched), and they did so again to take 2nd and 3rd.
